We love bragging about you. That's why we have an interview series where we feature one of our biggest fans each month. We want everyone to get a peek at the amazing work they're doing and be inspired, because they're seriously some of the coolest people we've ever met.
Today we're bragging about Kitty (@craftpossum).
(Let's just take a moment to feel envious of those glasses!)
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a stay at home dog mom and I live in Bay Point/Pittsburg, CA, which is in the Greater East Bay. I live with my husband Matt and our dogs Leeloo “Dangerzone” Nowack, Handsome Harry Dogface, and Zuul aka Pazuzu. Harry is a retired racing greyhound, Zuul is a greyhound saluki cross, and Leeloo is a border collie mix. My dogs are definitely the biggest part of my life and everything revolves around them. My living room is mostly dog beds and dog toys and my couch is covered in blankets that my dogs like.
In addition to dog-momming, I run the social media accounts for my quilt guild and I volunteer with the quilt show operations. When I’m not quilting or embroidering I also enjoy knitting, loom-knitting, and buying more quilting fabric than I could possibly use in a lifetime. I started embroidering in 2008 after I had my wisdom teeth out and needed something to do. I love the internet because you can teach yourself almost anything. Except crochet. Crochet is some sort of wizardry that I just can’t wrap my head around.
I stopped crafting for a long time, but when Matt and I moved to California, I picked it back up again and things really started to blossom from there. When I’m not crafting and hanging out with my dogs I’m playing Dungeons and Dragons. I’m addicted to dice, but no matter how many shiny math rocks I buy, I always roll terribly.
What is your hidden talent?
I’m not sure if this counts as a talent or not but I have what my spouse calls my “Puffin Senses” (Matt’s nickname for me is Puffin since I love frigid weather, swimming, and Puffins). I can predict what’s going to happen in nearly every tv show and movie we watch. I’m pretty sure my “talent” is just the result of consuming way too much media over the years and then learning all the different possible plot twists and tropes.
What is the coolest (or weirdest) thing you have ever done?
This is a really tough one. When Matt and I were first dating I made him a birthday cake with Rigby from Regular Show. The cake looked fantastic and tasted great too. It was yellow cake, custard filling, and covered in ganache with buttercream decorations.
The song that's currently in your head?
The theme song to A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. It’s so catchy.
The book you share with all your friends?
The Stand by Stephen King for adults and the illustrated editions of Harry Potter for children. (Here's a link to The Stand via Goodreads.)
(Kitty's 2018 Year of Stitches. This is so beautiful! You stitch a little every day for a whole year. She makes one every year and hangs them in her home.)
What superlative would you give yourself? (ex. Most Likely to Become a Crazy Cat Lady)
Most Likely to Forget Someone’s Name Immediately After Being Introduced
What embroidery project are you most proud of?
The rainbow satin stitch dragon embroidery that I turned into a mini quilt for the Crypto Creatures Swap back in 2017.
