I've always had a fascination with skeletons and Victorian curiosity cabinets. Those velvet-lined glass cases and little, yellowed identification tags give me the shivers of excitement. That's why I was thrilled to work with Paxton Gate in San Francisco to design two custom kits for their customers.
I had a lot of trouble figuring out which animal skeletons would work best for a circle format and then played with whether the bones should be simple outlines or filled in. In the end, I felt the outline method worked better. They look quite spooky now and I'm hoping they're a great hit in the shop, especially with Halloween coming up soon.
If you live in the Bay Area, you definitely want to check out Paxton Gate. It's the most fantastical place and one of the few shops I know where you can buy carnivorous plants AND a taxidermied animal. They also have a location in Portland that I just discovered and now can't wait to visit.
I've had a few people ask if these designs will be available in the shop. At the moment, the answer is no, but if there's enough interest, that may change.
